Happy Birthday Liam!

A year ago today, early early in the morning, a little boy was born. He was loved from the moment when he was merely a dream, but that special day one year ago he captured the hearts of two people who vowed together to care for him and love him more than anything else in the world. Along with this very special love, came the love of grandparents, aunts, great aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.





Look at how you've grown! Be happy and healthy this year, little bunny. You will do and learn many things. We are so fortunate to be able to share each and every day with you, to watch you grow up big and strong.

Early Birthday Present

For Liam's 1st (FIRST! ANNUAL! BIRTHDAY!) Birthday present, Daddy and Mommy bought him his very own train set and table to play with. Happy early birthday, baby!

Liam also started walking yesterday! Yay baby! I would post a video, but the only one I've got ends with him crashing into the coffee table and crying, so I'm not going to post it. :( I'm sure we'll get a tonne of video, once he gets braver and walks more often. It's fun to watch him--so strong and sure on his chubby little legs!

Liam's birthday is on Friday--August 15th! We'll play all day!

Growing like a weed

Liam helped me check out the sprinklers in the backyard today.

Yep. They work. :)

Butterfly Kisses

Liam saw his first butterfly up close last weekend at Lake Pokagon. And she was a beauty!

(it used to be train tracks, but it has been paved over

and made into a path--it goes right downtown to our village.

Someday I'll walk the whole way--I think it might take over an hour to get there. Maybe someday when Liam isn't in a napping mood and we can walk for 2 hours.)

We strolled around our neighbourhood today and went to check out the new park that was just completed:

They have a preschool playground set, an older kids playground set, some swings for all and a fun fun fun water spray park! Next summer, Liam is going to go wild! This park is about a 20 minute walk from our house.

We also walked past our neighbourhood school. Unfortunately, it won't be the school that Liam will go to. We have to drive past this school (and another 10 minutes) to get to his district school. Crazy. I hope by the time Liam heads off to school they will have changed the zoning rules. I want Liam to be able to walk to school--eventually. The middle and high schools are also very close to us, so if we are here that long, Liam will never need to take a school bus. :)

Alrighty. Back to researching weed whackers...

Priorities

I could be playing with Liam. (actually no I couldn't. He's asleep and there's no way in hades I'm waking him up.)

I could be weeding. (um...I think I would get taken down by the weeds in our backyard.)

I could be mowing the lawn (except for the unfortunate circumstance of not owning a lawn mower. But that would help hide the weeds for a while, at least.)

I could be unpacking. (soooo much unpacking left to do.)

I could even be packing! (sigh. I know I would just end up repacking on Monday.)

I could be folding laundry. (um. no.)

I could be playing my piano. (hm. with a nice little glass of wine. hm.)

I could be relaxing. (Scott says I don't know how to relax. :) There are just always things to do! Look at this list!)

I could be doing my toes. (desperately seeking pedicure)

I could be having a bath in our new dreamy tub. (but the water fills the tub so quietly that I might forget I'm running the tub until I see the water running down the stairs.)

I could be catching up on my email. (not now.)

I could be researching weed-whackers to buy.

I know what I like

A good friend of mine put up a list of her child's likes and dislikes on her blog as a way to take a 'snapshot' of what life is like with her darling 3 year old. I thought it was a great idea and decided to do the same for Liam:



Liam likes:

-anything with wheels
-looking at how things are put together (i.e. screws, hinges, etc.)
-playing on his drum
-babies and little kids
-eating kleenex and paper
-ripping paper, books, magazines
-playing "no hands!" as he's standing (he props his belly against something and throws his hands up to make it look like he's standing on his own)
-cruising and walking and moving and crawling and climbing and diving and rolling
-kicky kicky kicky
-shaka shaka
-showing off his new signs: all-done, milk, byebye, hi
-talking
-cuddling with mama, giving mama kisses
-saying dada or adda or da!
-playing "where's baby?"
-bananas, cheerios, avacado, peas, waffles, oatmeal with cinnamon and applesauce, cheddar bunnies, puffs, yogurt, cheese, water, sweet potato, steak, chicken, ground beef, pears, melon

Liam doesn't like:

-being ignored or not paid attention to when it's clear he wants attention :)
-being shut out/closed doors
-carrots, beans, canned babyfood (unless it's fruity), tofu
-getting his diaper changed (unless he has something to play with)
-grass
-sand
-really normal nice looking people who apparently to him are scary
-vacuums
-the fruit at the bottom of fruit-on-the-bottom baby yogurt
-swimming at the pool -- I would like to say he likes it sometimes, but realistically I don't think he does. :(
-riding in the car when the car is stopped
-being strapped into something and unable to move around
-going back to sleep when he wakes up at night time
-missing out on really really fun things
